Once upon a time, there were stones and water.
Also, there was an ice cube.
Ice cube: “I’m water!”
Water: “Are you fucking mad? Water’s a liquid! You’re not liquid!”
Ice cube: “I know, but... I’m water!”
Stones: “What the hell? You’re a solid! That makes you a stone!”
Ice cube: “I’m really not a stone!”
Water: “Define ‘water.’”
Ice cube: “I can’t, I don’t know why, I just know that I’m water!”
Stones: “Facts, not feelings! Liquids are water and solids are stones! That’s just basic science!!!”
Ice cube: “But the science is more complicated than that, it just has to be.”
Water: “wa-ter (noun) a liquid. You are NOT water!”
Stones: “ston (noun) a solid. You are a stone!”
Ice cube: “I’m water!!!!”
Water: “Look, you stone, you can’t even define what makes you water! You joker!”
Stones: “You can’t prove you’re water, because you’re NOT water!”
Ice cube: “Just because we don’t yet understand the science of it, doesn’t mean I’m not truly water!”
Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Current scientific knowledge of sex and gender can’t explain why.
That doesn’t mean it’s not true. It just means we have more to learn. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Hillel said: do not say it is impossible to understand this, for ultimately it will be understood." (Pirkei Avot 2:5)
